Il 20 giugno 2017 un utente pubblica il seguente post Facebook ottenendo oltre 1300 condivisioni in appena due ore:
Attenzione, questa è la nuova bastardata che stanno facendo in giro nelle stazioni di servizio. Mettono delle siringhe infette da HIV nella pistola del carburante. Fatte attenzione e fatte girare.
Trattasi di una bufala già diffusa negli Stati Uniti e di cui aveva già parlato Snopes, ma è bene spiegare alcune cose. Avevo già parlato a marzo della bufala della carne bovina infetta da AIDS ricordando quanto possa essere possibile che qualcuno possa essere veramente colpito:
Attraverso la carne bovina è possibile trasmettere il virus dell’HIV? Assolutamente no, per due semplici motivi:
- il virus dell’HIV muore a contatto con l’aria e la sua sopravvivenza è legata alle cellule che si infettano;
- il virus colpisce solo gli esseri umani , quindi non vi possono essere cellule infette.
Il virus dell’HIV, infatti, è molto debole:
Al di fuori del corpo umano l’HIV sopravvive solo pochi minuti, perché è un virus estremamente debole e poco resistente, che viene inattivato anche dall’esiccamento provocato dai raggi solari, nonchè da comuni disinfettanti, come ad esempio la varechina.
Ribadisco: siamo nel 2017 e dovremmo conoscere meglio questa realtà.
L’immagine tuttavia è reale e spiegata da Snopes:
Although there have been a few isolated reports of copycat pranksters leaving needles in public places (including gas pumps, such as an incident in May 2017) in the wake of this hoax, none of those incidents has involved a needle bearing any traces of HIV. No matter how it is reworded, the “Captain Abraham Sands” message is naught but another darn fool hoax dreamed up by someone intent upon enjoying the sight of people thrown into a panic over nothing.
Il rischio è che diffondendo questa immagine qualche malato di mente possa imitare il suo “collega” americano.
Inoltre la foto originale è quella del caso citato a fine articolo da Snopes, quello del padre di Jacqueline Medina che in questo post riporta parecchi aggiornamenti:
***UPDATE#4*** My father’s lab work came back negative, but he will be getting follow up labs just to continue making sure it stays negative and additional testing to make sure he is cleared of everything. The police as of now, we are not sure what is being done about the matter, since they won’t release the video, nor say that the person before him was the culprit, (although I hope they are at least running the license plates of the person/people that were there before him), I also had to remove the original photo of the gas pump and put a photo credit to my father because there are now people taking the photo and adding a different story or claiming the needle has the AIDS/HIV virus (when I never stated that the needle did or did not have the virus, we don’t know what was or was not on there). Will update once I get more information.***
